Consultation sessions from Healthy Minds for those working with troubled children and young people



What consultation is:


The provision of advice and guidance by a Healthy Minds Practitioner to any professional, parent/carer or young person, related to the emotional and mental health needs of a child/young person.


What it’s for:


• To help develop individual/collective practice in promoting/improving the emotional well being/mental health of children and young people.

• To ensure that children and young people receive the most appropriate intervention related to their emotional wellbeing/mental health issue, at the most appropriate time and from the most appropriate services/professional(s).

• To harness the resources of community services for children and young people to achieve the above.


How consultation takes place:


• One to one over the telephone or in person
• Through multi-agency/”team around the child” working
• Through team meetings.
• Through joint appointments.

Which services would benefit from consultation?


Health: e.g. GPs, Health Visitors, School Nurses, Speech and Language Therapists, Paediatricians

Children & Education: e.g. School Heads/Deputies, SENCOs, School Counsellors, Education Welfare Officers, Social Workers, Behaviour Support/Link Workers, Extended Schools Coordinators, Connexions, Youth Offending

Voluntary Sector: e.g. Family Mediation, Relate/Talk Zone, SPLITZ, Parenting Support Service
