Emergencies

In an emergency, where a child or young person has made a suicide attempt or is thought to have a mental disorder and is presenting a serious risk of harm to themselves or to others, an urgent referral should be made using the emergency arrangements for your area.

What mental health problem are you concerned about?

You can access an index of mental health concerns. From the index, professionals can go to information about 'what works' in relation to a range of problem areas. This may help you to decide what to do next.

Helpful information particularly for parents and young people is available on the following site: www.youngminds.org.uk.

You can click to find out about who does what in Wiltshire in relation to emotional & behavioural problems.

You can make use of the “Healthy Minds” consultation service.

Do you need additional help? - making a referral

If you think that additional help is required to respond to the concern you have, you can make a referral to the Healthy Minds service. Click here to view referral criteria. (For guidance and advice you may wish to telephone Healthy Minds for a consultation before making a referral.) You need to:

1. Discuss with the parent/carer and, wherever possible, the young person about making a referral and get their consent

2. Provide some information about the child or young person and their difficulties using the Comprehensive CAMHS Referral form. It is also possible to send the Brief CAMHS Referral form but ONLY if it is accompanied by a CAF (Common Assessment Framework) form.

3. Send the referral form to your local Healthy Minds Team. Click here for contact information.

Note: both CAMHS referral forms are also available in Microsoft Word format in our Document Library.
