Panel for Accessing Family & Parenting SupportGuidance
24 July 2012
Wiltshire’s new County-wide family and parenting support service, run by Action for Children, started on 1 April 2012. We decided to use the existing fortnightly Gateway Panel as the access route for this service. The service is for families and parents of children and young people who do not meet the social care threshold but with needs which cannot be met by support offered by Children’s Centres and Parenting Support Advisers alone. The family situation will be complex which might be due to:
• Ongoing and problematic substance misuse of parents
• Mental health needs of parents
• Domestic violence
• Learning difficulties of parents
• Offending or risk of offending or anti-social behaviour of children
• Parents in receipt of statutory parenting orders.
If you would like to make a referral to the Gateway Panel, a CAF must have been completed (or for staff working within the Youth Offending Service, an ASSET assessment). The attached referral form should be sent with the CAF/ASSET to the DCE Coordination Team (this form can be accessed on the Children’s Trust Pathways website).
It is likely that most referrals to the Gateway Panel will be for families where some intervention has already taken place following the completion of a CAF. Please send in the latest version of the CAF with the updated action plan, the referral form and any TAC meeting notes.
If you have any queries about the revised Gateway Panel process, please contact Amanda Bennett on 07824 498363 or Mary O’Malley on 07785 304273.
