Preventive Strategy
The purpose of a Preventive Strategy is "to promote positive outcomes and to prevent children and young people experiencing negative outcomes".
The Wiltshire Preventive Strategy builds on the achievements of the Wiltshire Children & Young People's Services "Pathways" Project.
1. The outcomes we want to achieve for children & young people
The starting point for the Preventive Strategy is the five key outcomes that have been identified as the ones that really matter for children & young people's well-being:
- Be healthy
- Stay safe
- Enjoy and achieve
- Make a positive contribution
- Achieve economic well-being
2. Obstacles to health & development
These pages explore the things that stand in the way of achieving the desired
outcomes for children & young people. "Obstacles to health
& development" were used as the starting point for the
Wiltshire "Pathways" Project. It is these obstacles and
risk factors that the Preventive Strategy aims to overcome.

These pages describe the three overlapping strands of the Preventive Strategy -
- preventing obstacles arising;
- equipping children & young people to overcome the obstacles to health & development that they may encounter;
- providing services to help overcome obstacles.

4. Improvement plans
Greater effectiveness in promoting positive outcomes and preventing children
