Preventive Strategy

The purpose of a Preventive Strategy is "to promote positive outcomes and to prevent children and young people experiencing negative outcomes".

The Wiltshire Preventive Strategy builds on the achievements of the Wiltshire Children & Young People's Services "Pathways" Project.

1. The outcomes we want to achieve for children & young people

The starting point for the Preventive Strategy is the five key outcomes that have been identified as the ones that really matter for children & young people's well-being:
  • Be healthy
  • Stay safe
  • Enjoy and achieve
  • Make a positive contribution
  • Achieve economic well-being

2. Obstacles to health & development

These pages explore the things that stand in the way of achieving the desired outcomes for children & young people. "Obstacles to health & development" were used as the starting point for the Wiltshire "Pathways" Project. It is these obstacles and risk factors that the Preventive Strategy aims to overcome.

  • preventing obstacles arising;
  • equipping children & young people to overcome the obstacles to health & development that they may encounter;
  • providing services to help overcome obstacles.
and you can find out more what each means.
